Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows the Library to borrow books or get articles from other libraries if they are not available at Brenau. These services are available to students, faculty, and staff.

Types of material that can be borrowed include:

  • Books
  • Book chapters (within copyright limitations)
  • Articles
  • Theses and dissertations
  • Some audiovisual materials (faculty only)

Types of material that cannot be borrowed include:

  • Textbooks for current Brenau courses
  • Entire eBooks
  • Entire periodical issues
  • Reference books
  • Rare/valuable materials or manuscripts

Delivery of Items

  • When items arrive you will be notified by email.
  • Materials mailed to us can be picked up and returned at the Brenau Trustee Library Circulation Desk or at the North Atlanta campus.
  • Items must be picked up within 5 business days or they will be returned to the lending library. If you are unable to pick up within this timeframe, please email infodelivery@brenau.edu.
  • Physical items will be mailed to distance learners.
  • Materials emailed to us will be forwarded directly to you.

Please be aware of the following before submitting requests:

  • ILL material can take up to 20 working days to arrive.
  • Loan periods for ILL items are determined by the lending library. Two to four weeks is the common time limit.
  • Though not guaranteed, renewal requests for items must be made 3 days in advance of the due date by emailing infodelivery@brenau.edu.
  • Articles and chapters may be copied or scanned for personal use only.
  • Charges and restrictions from lending libraries must be honored.
  • Distance learners are responsible for returning materials at their own expense using a mail carrier that provides tracking. If an item is lost and a tracking number was not acquired, the patron is responsible for the replacement and processing costs of the item, as determined by the lending library.
  • Undergraduate students may request up to 5 print or electronic items per week.
  • Graduate students and faculty may request as many electronic items as needed for their research and coursework.
  • Regardless of status, users are limited to 15 print items per academic year due to postage costs. Additional print item requests may be honored if budget allows, but materials that support your Brenau curriculum will take priority.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, the library cannot request more than 5 recent articles from the same periodical title per year. The only exception is if the article requested was published more than five years/60 months ago.
  • Users must have less than $3 in outstanding fines/fees and have no oustanding account restrictions in order to use the information delivery and interlibrary loan services.

Information Delivery

Students, faculty, and staff outside of Hall County can receive materials owned by the Trustee Library by mail (for books) or by email (for articles and book chapters).

Patrons are responsible for returning materials at their own expense using a mail carrier that provides tracking. Once an item is 4 weeks overdue, it will be considered lost. If an item is lost and a tracking number was not acquired, the patron is responsible for the replacement and processing costs of the item.

Articles and chapters may be copied or scanned for personal use only.
